On November 11, 2006, a dream came true for the residents of Hercules with the grand opening of the Hercules Library. Part of the Contra Costa County Library system, it serves the residents of Hercules and West Contra Costa County. The library is the pulse of our community. The library sparks imagination, fuels potential, and connects people with ideas and one another.
The people of Hercules are proud and excited to have this important resource at the heart of our city.
Come in and explore this beautiful building, read a book, attend a program, use a computer, and discover all that the library has to offer. Everyone is welcome!

During Fiscal Year 2017/2018:
-
On average, 2,433 people visit the Hercules Library every week
Children had a great time dancing to the steel drum concert.
- Patrons have checked out over 140,000 books and materials, and logged in to the 52 public computers over 20,500 times
- A wide array of programs are held regularly to inform, inspire and entertain children, teens and adults—story times, concerts, craft workshops, science demonstrations, cultural celebrations, and much more.
To say that the library has become one of the city’s most valued assets is an understatement.
The library is run as a partnership between the City of Hercules and the Contra Costa County Library System. The City owns and maintains the building, while Contra Costa Library provides the staff, manages the collections and oversees daily operations.
